Important Support Resources Regarding Upcoming SNAP Benefit Changes

Posted Date: 10/28/25 (9:00 AM)

Dear ASD Families,

We are writing to share important information about upcoming changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that may affect some families in our district.

Please be advised that some households that receive SNAP benefits are scheduled to lose or have their assistance reduced starting November 1, 2025.

We understand that losing financial support can create immediate stress and hardship. Our primary goal is to ensure all of our students have consistent access to the nutrition they need to thrive.

Immediate Resources and Assistance Programs

The District is committed to connecting you with resources to help maintain food security. Help is available right now:

  • Local Food Pantry Resources: The district has created a website page with local food pantry locations and contact information: https://www.astoria.k12.or.us/155661_3

  • Dial 2-1-1: Call this number to be connected with trained specialists who can provide information on local emergency food assistance, food pantries, and other vital resources in your area (including help with utility bills, housing, and healthcare).

  • School Support: Please know that our school staff is ready to listen. Your student's counselor or main office staff can confidentially connect you with local school and community resources.

We are sending this email because your well-being is our priority, and we want to make sure you have direct links to support before the change takes effect.

During upcoming conferences, our administrators and staff will have printed flyers with this resource information available for you.

If you would like to help, donations are being accepted at both the high school and middle school front offices. Assistance is open and accessible to all students, regardless of their financial status. Needs include:

  • Granola bars, trail mix, crackers, nuts, dried fruit, and other shelf-stable nutritious snacks.

  • Produce that does not require refrigeration, such as apples or oranges

  • Easy prep meals such as noodles, soups, cups of noodles/soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, and beans.

  • Cash donations

Thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,

Craig Hoppes, Superintendent
