Dear Parents and Guardians,
Astoria School District Board of Directors is excited to announce the approval of the student meal service mid-year community eligibility provision (CEP) application through the Oregon Department of Education.
What This Means For Astoria Students
Beginning January 2, 2024, every student in the Astoria School District will be offered breakfast and lunch at no cost, regardless of their paid, reduced, or free meal program status, for the remainder of the school year and the next three consecutive school years.
What Should Parents Know:
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allows the nation’s highest-poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved a one-year waiver for CEP mid-year elections.
Astoria School District qualified for the mid-year change because more than 40% of students were directly certified for free or reduced meals.
This qualification will last for the remainder of this school year and the next three consecutive years as the funding permits.
We could not have achieved this benefit without the participation of our parents and the work of our Food Service Director, Mike Kelly, and his team. If you have questions regarding CEP or the mid-year waiver, please contact Mike Kelly at email@example.com.
